Ashley's Story

Hear it read by Nate, PJMS

Cold, hard rain bounced off the ground during Ashley's history lesson. She was thinking about how she hated Florida! So much for the dazzling sunshine state, mumbled Ashley. "Ashley please listen! I know you find it hard, but TRY," boomed Mr. Simpson. Finally the bell rang, it was playtime.

She walked around the playground dragging her feet along the floor. Millie, a girl in her class, walked by with her friends, sniggering and whispering in their ear. Ashley had smoke coming out of her ears. Slowly tuning around, Ashley ran towards Millie and punched her in the eye. Just as her fist hit Millie's skin, her vision twisted and twirled … something didn't feel quite right.

Ashley opened her eyes in horror; she was standing in a playground of death. Her eyes burned with the excruciating and stomach-turning site. She slowly turned around and slipped in a smoldering crater of corpses. A group of kids appeared in front of Ashley, launching rocks at her. When they finally disappeared, which felt like hours later, the corpses came to life and tried to engulf her. Luckily an adult with piercing green eyes carefully lifted her out. "There …welcome to World War 100. All of the children wish they could stop bullying, but they find it too hard," she said. Appalled Ashley stood glaring at the huge volcano that was about to erupt right in front of her eyes!

Without warning the earth shook. In shock Ashley ran as fast as lightening. She was so scared she kept looking behind her then……………. BOOM! Rocks thudded, one of the rocks came so near her face it nearly cracked her skull! Hundreds of rocks still poured down. Ashley still did not know what was happening.

Before she could move rocks trapped her legs. In the distance Ashley saw a orange liquid running down the volcano. She quickly tried to gather her strength to lift the rocks off of her legs. Soon she had only one rock to lift off of her legs. As the lava inched closer she lifted the last rock off of her legs and quickly stood up and dashed away from the volcano and towards her friends. There were many traps while running away from the volcano but surprisingly she dodged them all and didn't get trapped in one of the traps.

When Ashley reached her friends she was ecstatic that she was not squished by the rocks or burned by the lava. She had not been that relieved in her life. They all jumped that they were safe. Ashley was exited to get home and to her mum. She didn't want the to go to the next class but she had to.

During the last class of the day she counted down the seconds until the end of school. As soon as the bell rang Ashley zoomed out to her locker to gather her stuff and sprinted home.

When Ashley got home she told her mum everything. Her mum thought that she was making up a story. Ashley wanted her mum to believe her so she asked her mum to come with her to the school and the playground. When they arrived Ashley took her mum to the back of the school.

Ashley was astonished by what she was seeing. The playground of death had disappeared. Ashley thought this couldn't have been my imagination. It all looked so real and when the rocks fell on her leg they hurt. Ashley's mum said it was a great story anyway. Ashley and her mum walk home together. Ashley's mum was making her laugh and not feel bad. Ashley was glad she had her mum that day.
